GNIOT ECE Students Soar High with Industrial Visit to Airports Authority of India
On December 21st, 2023, a group of eager second-year Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) students from Greater Noida Institute of Technology (GNIOT) embarked on an unforgettable industrial visit to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in Safdarjung, Delhi. This insightful excursion, meticulously planned by the ECE department, provided students with a unique opportunity to witness firsthand the marvels of aviation technology and the intricate workings of airport operations.
The visit would not have been possible without the unwavering support and encouragement of the esteemed Director, Dr. Dhiraj Gupta. The department extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Mukesh Ojha, Head of the ECE Department, for his invaluable guidance. Special thanks go to the dedicated Visit Coordinators, Mr. Harvinder and Dr. Monika Dixit, whose exceptional efforts ensured the visit's smooth execution and transformed it into a transformative learning experience for the students.
During the visit, the students delved into the following key areas:
- Air Traffic Control (ATC): Stepping into the heart of the ATC tower, students witnessed the meticulous operations that ensure safe and efficient air traffic management. Interactive sessions with ATC personnel provided a glimpse into their critical roles and responsibilities, along with the crucial utilization of radar systems, surveillance technology, and advanced communication protocols.
- Communication Systems: Students explored the facilities housing vital ground-to-air and air-to-air communication equipment. Demonstrations of VHF and HF radios, satellite communication systems, and data link platforms unveiled the intricate network that keeps information flowing seamlessly within the aviation ecosystem.
- Navigational Aids: Gaining hands-on experience with Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), and VHF Omni-directional Range (VOR) systems, students grasped the fundamental principles of aircraft navigation. Interactions with maintenance personnel shed light on the meticulous calibration and upkeep of these systems, ensuring safe and precise flight paths.
- Maintenance Facilities: The visit culminated with a tour of the AAI maintenance facilities. Students observed the rigorous procedures and stringent safety protocols involved in maintaining both aircraft and ground equipment. Witnessing intricate processes like engine overhauls, component replacements, and comprehensive inspections underscored the importance of meticulous maintenance in upholding the highest airworthiness standards.
